Calm the Inner Voice, Reduce Overthinking and Rebuild Self-Trust
Most people have some form of inner voice.
For some, it is useful. It helps them plan, reflect, solve problems and make decisions.
For others, it becomes exhausting.
It comments on everything. It questions every decision. It replays mistakes, predicts criticism and makes even simple situations feel more complicated than they need to be.
Inner Voice Awareness is about learning to recognise that inner commentary without being controlled by it.
The goal is not to silence your mind completely.
The goal is to stop letting every thought run the show.

Do Any of These Sound Familiar?
You may benefit from Inner Voice Awareness if:
- You overthink decisions
- You replay conversations afterwards
- You criticise yourself harshly
- You worry about what other people think
- You second-guess yourself under pressure
- You struggle to trust your own judgement
- You feel mentally noisy or overloaded
- You know what to do but talk yourself out of it
- You perform better in practice than under pressure
If this sounds familiar, the problem is not that you are weak or incapable.
Your inner voice has simply become too involved.
What Is Inner Voice Awareness?
Inner Voice Awareness is the process of noticing, understanding and changing your relationship with the voice inside your head.
Rather than automatically believing every thought, you begin to recognise patterns.
You may notice:
- The critical voice
- The anxious voice
- The perfectionist voice
- The people-pleasing voice
- The fearful voice
- The protective voice
- The “what if?” voice
Once you can observe the voice, you are no longer completely identified with it.
That is where change begins.
Why the Inner Voice Becomes So Loud
The inner voice often tries to protect you.
It scans for danger, predicts problems, rehearses conversations and tries to prevent mistakes.
The difficulty is that it can begin treating normal situations as threats.
This can create:
- Anxiety
- Hesitation
- Self-doubt
- Mental fatigue
- Performance anxiety
- Decision fatigue
- Emotional tension
- Loss of natural confidence
The more you try to think your way out of the problem, the louder the voice can become.
Inner Voice Awareness and Overthinking
Overthinking is often the result of an inner voice that has become overactive.
It keeps asking:
- What if this goes wrong?
- What will they think?
- Did I say the wrong thing?
- What if I make a mistake?
- Am I good enough?
- What if I fail?
Inner Voice Awareness helps you create space between you and those thoughts.
Instead of being dragged into every mental argument, you learn to respond differently.
Inner Voice Awareness and Performance
Under pressure, the inner voice can interfere with natural ability.
Athletes, performers, speakers, professionals and business owners often know what to do, but the moment pressure rises, self-monitoring increases.
This can lead to:
- Hesitation
- Tightness
- Loss of rhythm
- Poor decision-making
- Trying too hard
- Choking under pressure
- Losing flow state
The aim is to move from conscious interference back towards calm, instinctive performance.
Inner Voice Awareness and Aphantasia
Not everyone experiences their inner world in the same way.
Some people think visually. Some think mainly in words. Others think through concepts, emotions, sensations or patterns.
I have aphantasia myself, which means I do not experience voluntary mental imagery in the way many people describe it.
This has made me especially interested in how people experience thought, inner dialogue, awareness and consciousness.
Inner Voice Awareness does not require visualisation.
It is about noticing how your mind actually works and learning to work with it more effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Inner Voice Awareness?
Inner Voice Awareness is the process of noticing and changing your relationship with your inner commentary, especially when it creates overthinking, self-doubt or anxiety.
Is the inner voice the same as overthinking?
Not exactly. The inner voice is the internal commentary. Overthinking happens when that commentary becomes repetitive, anxious or controlling.
Can Inner Voice Awareness help with anxiety?
Yes. Many anxious patterns are maintained by inner dialogue, worry and “what if?” thinking. Becoming more aware of these patterns can help reduce their influence.
Can this help with confidence?
Yes. A harsh or doubtful inner voice can undermine confidence. Sessions can help you develop a calmer, more supportive relationship with yourself.
Does this require visualisation?
No. Inner Voice Awareness does not require mental imagery or visualisation.
Is this useful for people with aphantasia?
Yes. This approach can be particularly suitable for people with aphantasia because it does not depend on visual imagery.
Can this help performance?
Yes. Many people underperform because they over-monitor, overthink or criticise themselves under pressure. Inner Voice Awareness can help reduce that interference.
Is the aim to silence my thoughts?
No. The aim is not to eliminate thought completely. The aim is to stop being controlled by every thought.
Are online sessions available?
Yes. Sessions are available online for clients in Central London, across the UK and internationally.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your goals and circumstances. Some people notice changes within a few sessions, while others prefer longer-term support for deeper confidence and performance work.
